What to wear with the Ladies’ shirt :
Style 3: With a Long skirt with prints-Ankara Skirt.
For this look the shirt has been paired with an Ankara skirt which is long and has a wide cut. Ankara is a popular fabric worn by many Africans. According to the site All Things Ankara‘ it is ‘commonly known as “African Prints”,”African Wax Prints” “Holland Wax” and “Dutch Wax” , is a 100% cotton fabric with vibrant patterns.
It is usually a colorful cloth and is primarily associated with Africa because of its tribal-like patterns and motifs’.
The skirt here has a beautiful print against a yellow-mustard coloured palette. These 2 colours from the shirt and the skirt have an interesting contrast and based on the diverse array of prints and colours in Ankara fabrics, there is quite a minefield to explore. A belt has been added for some definition at the waist but it can also be worn without the belt.
This look is great for weekends as its easy, less formal and incorporates bright colours for a relaxed vibe.
NB: Ankara is one of those items that is found in many Kenyan, and indeed African women’s wardrobes, so this is not too difficult to source. Locally it has been known as ‘Kitenge’, and this is still how it is known amongst the older generation in Kenya.
