Hello! Welcome to Meruti!

My name is Mercy. I live in Nairobi, Kenya with my husband- ‘B’ and our son Johann aka ‘Baba’.

I have a special love for car-boot sales, flea or second-hand markets, baking, cooking channels, home-make-overs and up till recently, with all due respect to our wonderful Kenyan tea…, the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning. I also have long drawn out plans to get back to playing tennis and dreams of climbing Mt. Kenya (in spite of my closet fear of heights).. it shall happen! Above all else, I am rooted in my Christian Faith.

We grew up in the military and it was an exciting childhood. One of my early and fond memories back then, was visiting a fascinating store in the shopping area where we grew up. It was relatively smaller (but that was probably because it had so much stuff), and every corner you turned there was something to look at, This definitely caught my fancy in so many ways. Second hand furniture, home decor items, kitchen ware, clothes, artwork, electronics –it was all there!

Fast forward several years later, when I travelled, away from home, I really got intrigued with the shopping scene!  Some of my favourite shopping places were charity shops-more for the variety of stuff one would find. The one-of-a kind pieces which were unique in their design, were functional and affordable. This experience planted the seed and the idea for Meruti was born.

Tall girl issues……

I could go on about these, but my major issue growing up -besides the awkward teenage stage, was that it was always challenging getting trousers/jackets that were long enough. I always craved the feeling of going into a store and finding clothes off the racks that fit me just right. This was and has been challenging to find in Kenya. I am 5’8 and even though this is on the border of the ‘Tall’ label, I could not find clothes that I was comfortable in, like my friends could. If I was lucky, I would find some second-hand gems, but these opportunities were few and far in between.

Knowing the very close connection between, confidence and embracing your features enough to let them shine, totally changed my outlook. I realized that’s what I want for other tall individuals like myself, to achieve and experience with Meruti.

Why Home Decor? Well, I had always wanted to spruce up my living spaces in a way that expressed my personality but was also affordable. This was also a challenge to pull off and so I ventured to meet this need for myself and others like you who’d be interested in the same values. Our aesthetic tends towards the (Modern) Farmhouse, Rustic, Shabby chic and Industrial style

‘The Meruti’ name is an amalgam of my late father’s name (Maruti) and my name, and I am honoured to have it as a name for the business.

Meruti is about finding solutions for tall style and home decor and a lot in between. We will have a special mix of carefully curated products in Home decor and Tall fashion. Sharing is caring, so there will be information and tips to deal with the frustration that tall individuals have, in finding fashionable, well-fitting clothes made with their height and size in mind, as well as ideas/inspiration to enhance homes and living spaces in a way that tells your story.

Meruti is my kind of place. A concept store. I hope it will be yours too! If you have a friend that would benefit from what we do here, please direct them here, the more we can help the better !
